How Much Do Pianos Cost?
The value of a piano depends ultimately on what someone is
willing to pay for it.  The appearance of a piano may not
represent its mechanical condition. Variables related to a
piano's value include the piano's age, size, cabinet, and
mechanical condition
The pianos we sell here at Kurtz Music start at around
$500.00.  When considering a 'starter' instrument for your
beginning student, remember that a quality instrument is
essential to keep a child's interest.  Buying a piano is a musical
investment, not one that yields monetary gain, but one that will
yield benefits for the entire life of the student.  The lowest price
is not always the best choice.
How Much are lessons?
Lesson fees vary from teacher to teacher depending on the skill
level of the teacher and years of teaching experience.  The
area average is $15.00 - $20.00 per 1/2 hour lesson.
How old should my child be?
The appropriate age to start a child in piano lessons depends
on the preference of the teacher.  There is a wide gamut of
educational philosophies which can influence the appropriate
starting age.  Some teachers accept students as young as 4
as long as a parent can devote the time and effort to assist the
student in their practice.  Other teachers will not start a child
until they become a certain age.  And then there are teachers
who will use an interview process for all students, regardless
of age.  The most important thing is to find the teacher and
educational philosophy that is right for the student.
Can my child learn on a keyboard?
If it has black and white keys, it's just like a piano, right?  Not
really.  While there are similarities between keyboards and
pianos, keyboards lack the weight of a piano key.
Furthermore, the keys on a keyboard are more narrow than a
piano, thus throwing off the spacial relationships that the
student is developing in the first few years of lessons.  The
digital pianos carried at Kurtz Music have standard piano
sized keys with a graded hammer action to authentically
replicate the feel of an acoustic piano, and have a full
keyboard, as opposed to 61 or 76 note keyboards.
